China, US to hold 6th round of textile talks (Xinhua) Updated: 2005-10-11 21:10
China and the United States will hold the sixth round of talks on textiles
from October 12 to 13 in Beijing.
Five rounds of consultations have been held between the two sides but no
agreement has yet been reached.
Right before the setting of the date for the sixth round of talks, the
Committee for Implementation of Textile Agreement of the United States announced
its decision on September 5 to consider requests for reapplication of safeguard
actions limiting imports of nine textile products and the application of four
othertextile products imported from China.
Since January 1, 2005, when the world textile quota system was rescinded, the
U.S. has taken restrictive measures or held investigations imposing restrictive
measures on 20-plus categoriesof Chinese-made textile products.
China has time and again urged the United States to proceed from the overall
situation of the Sino-US trade relations and handle the textile trade disputes
cautiously and properly.
