Wang Meng wins women's 1500m short track at World Cup

HANGZHOU, East of China, September 30 (Xinhua) -- Wang Meng won the first gold medal for China in the women's 1500m at the Short Track Speed Skating World Cup which opened here on Friday.

Wang, ranked first in World Cup overall rankings in 2004, defeated a strong field of three South Koreans in the final for the title with a time of two minutes 23.375 seconds.

Jin Sun-Yu of South Korea was second in 2:23.440 with her country woman Byun Chun-Sa third in 2:24.022.

Chinese skater Yang Yang (A), gold medalist at the Salt Lake City Winter Olympics, finished sixth in 2:25.135.
