Women's life expectancy 73.8 years in Guangxi
The average life expectancy for women in southwest China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region has increased from 70 years in 1995 to 73.8 years in 2004. Meanwhile the death rate of pregnant women and the mortality rate of children have declined in the autonomous region. Guangxi has made major efforts to improve women and children's health conditions in the past years. The region continuously invests in increased health protection for women and children. In last year, the investment was 383 million yuan, or over 4 million US dollars. In 2001, the region began to implement programming on women and children's development, which was targeted at rural areas and offers impoverished women necessary aids. Guangxi also has enhanced the prevention and treatment of AIDs, and carried out a census on women's diseases. The region says it has effectively controlled the major diseases that impact
women physically and medically, further elevating women's health
conditions. |
