A suicide bomber rammed his car into a police patrol in Baghdad on Thursday, killing at least 15 members of an elite unit, said a police official.

Police officials had said earlier that the blast killed 10 policemen and five civilians.

The official said the suicide bomber in the southern Baghdad district of Dora attacked the force as they were riding in a truck. At least 21 people were wounded.

The violence followed a series of bombings and a shooting which killed over 150 people on Wednesday.

Insurgents are waging a relentless campaign against the U.S.-backed government and have killed thousands of police, security force members, civilians and officials.

The guerrillas are mostly former members of toppled Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein's security forces or Muslim militants, mostly from other Arab countries, who say they are fighting a holy war against U.S. troops.
