China striker Li Jinyu likley to miss rest of season
China international striker Li Jinyu is likely to miss the rest of the season, his club Shandong Luneng said on Tuesday. The 28-year-old Li broke a toe in his left foot during a Chinese Super League match against Dalian Shide on August 31. "What makes the problem more tricky is that he cannot receive operation treatment, so it will take a longer period to recover," said a club official. Li was out of action for eight months last year due to a knee ligament injury. Li's absence will be a serious blow for Shandong when it hosts defending champion Al Ittihad Wednesday night in the first leg of the Asian Football Champions League quarterfinals. The return fixture will take place a week later in Jeddah. Last year's China FA Cup winner, Shandong now is in fifth placein the 14-team Chinese Super League, 16 points adrift from leader Dalian Shide.
