Resurgent US complete Solheim win over Europe (Reuters) Updated: 2005-09-12 08:56
Swede Sorenstam, with four points from five matches, was the highest points
scorer over the three days.
After playing in her seventh Solheim, Sorenstam holds the record points tally
of 21-1.2 -- one more than Davies, who has played in all nine Cup matches.
Mallon and Europe's Suzann Pettersen and American Rosie Jones, who halved the
final match once the contest was over, were the only three players to end the
week unbeaten.
Europe, who had been bidding to win the trophy for a first time on American
soil, won the 2003 Solheim Cup by 17-1/2 points to 10-1/2 at Barseback Golf and
Country Club in Sweden.
The Americans now lead 6-3 in the series, which is the women's equivalent of
the men's Ryder Cup where the top players from the United States face those of
Europe.
