Fu Biao bid emotional farewell The funeral ceremony of famous Chinese actor Fu Biao was held in Beijing yesterday. He died of terminal liver cancer on Tuesday at the age of 42. There were emotional scenes as more than 1,000 fans turned up at Babaoshan Crematorium to send off the beloved actor. They stood in silent tribute behind barriers, holding aloft banners carrying sentiments such as "Goodbye," and "Take care." Many key figures from China's entertainment circles attended the ceremony, including director Zhang Yimou, actors Zhang Guoli, Sun Haiying and Feng Gong, and actresses Lu Liping, Tao Hong and Cai Ming. Director Feng Xiaogang presided over the event. A huge green carpet was rolled out at the entrance, lined with nearly 10,000 bundles of chrysanthemum and 100 wreaths. Meanwhile, more than 500 entertainment reporters from across the country have jointly released an obituary to express their yearning and respect for a man they call "the people's artist." News of Fu's cancer suffering started spreading last year. He was diagnosed with terminal liver cancer last August, but recovered from a coma following his liver transplant operation last September. However, in May he was readmitted to hospital after a relapse. (China Daily 09/02/2005 page2)
