More educated, more DINK?
There will be more families with two incomes and no children in the future, according to a survey conducted by Zero Research Company early this year.
They questioned 2252 residents aged 14 to 60 in seven cities, including Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou. 37 per cent of them think that there will be more Dink family - double income, no kids - in the future. Over 43 per cent of those who have received college education agree with this, while only 23 per cent of those who have just received elementary education think so. Nearly 60 per cent of those who have a monthly salary of more than 5,000 yuan agree with this, and only 26 per cent of those whose monthly salary is less than 500 yuan think so. Xu Anqi, from the Shanghai Social Science Institute, says that people who have received higher education pay more attention to a free life style. The high cost of raising a child is another major reason why people don't want to have children. Bao Lei, a 27-year-old girl who is going to get married, says that she and her future husband don't want to have children because they don't have time and energy to do so, even though they are economically qualified.
