The World Bank (WB) is to provide a grant of 320 million US dollars to Nepal for the construction of rural roads and suspension bridges during the next five years, state-run Radio Nepal reported Monday.

This is the largest grant assistance WB has provided to the country, the report said.

The amount will be spent on a rural access reform and decentralization project in the next five years by the Local Infrastructure Development and Agriculture Road Department, it was informed at a program here.

Under the project, 800 km of all-weather rural road and 200 km of winter road will be constructed, and 3,500 km of rural road will be repaired.

Some 350 suspension bridges will be constructed in the 13 districts where the decentralized rural infrastructure and livelihood reform program has been implemented and in 15 districts that do not have road links, according to the department.
