Canadian hostage said killed in Iraq

A Canadian citizen taken hostage in Iraq on August 2 has been killed by his captors, Prime Minister Paul Martin said on Monday, reported Reuters.

A short statement released by Martin's Ottawa office identified the man as Zaid Meerwali, but gave no other details on why he was in Iraq or how officials learned of his death.
