2 killed, 3 injured in floods in central Nepal

At least two persons were killed and three others injured Sunday in floods triggered by heavy rain in central Nepal, local police office said Monday.

One elderly man died in floods in Katunje area and a 10-year- old boy was killed in Panauti city of Kavrepalanchok district, the neighboring district of Kathmandu, district police office said in a press release.

Likewise, three members of a family were injured when landslide swept their house in Panauti on Sunday, the release noted.

Heavy downpour since Saturday morning has swept several sections of Arniko Highway, bringing the vehicular traffic to a halt due to which parts of Kavre, Sindhupalchowk and Dolakha districts remain completely disconnected, according to the release.

The rain has also destroyed paddy plantations in areas in Kavrepalanchok district, the release added.
