Stoudamire signs with Grizzlies
Damon Stoudamire has signed a four-year contract with the Memphis Grizzlies, boosting the rebuilt backcourt of the National Basketball Association club, AFP reported. The free agent point guard spent the past seven seasons with Portland and will try to turn a team that made the playoffs the past two seasons into one that might finally win a post-season game. "I look forward to not only getting that win but reaching the ultimate goal and winning a championship for Memphis," Stoudamire said. The Grizzlies sent guard Bonzi Wells to Sacramento for center Greg Ostertag and guards Bobby Jackson and Jason Williams away while obtaining guard Eddie Jones in earlier deals this week. In 10 NBA seasons, Stoudamire has averaged 14.6 points, 6.6 assists and 3.7 rebounds in 729 games with Toronto and Portland. Last season he averaged 15.8 points and 5.7 assists and ranked fourth in NBA free-throw accuracy. "He will help take us to a different level," Grizzlies president Jerry West said. That might not necessarily mean higher. While at Portland, Stoudamire was cited for smoking marijuana and arrested for trying to smuggle marijuana through an airport, drawing a fine from the Trail Blazers and rehabilitation.
