The players involved the fight during China's Stankovic Cup basketball match with Puerto Rico have been punished by the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA).

Officials from Chinese Basketball Association annouced Thursday the handling of what Chinese media called a "night of shame".

A total of 16 people, including players and the team's Chinese administrators, were on a list announced by the CBA on Thursday.

"The fighting of China's national basketball team on the night of July 29 during a Stankovic Cup match with Puerto Rico is a severe infringement of game order, was of a malicious nature, and have had a bad influence and grave result," CBA officials said at a press conference Thursday.

An open letter by China's national basketball team was also released via the media yesterday, telling fans that their improper deeds "smirched the image of China's national team and that of Beijing as the 2008 Olympics host."
