Spanish first division league club Sevilla didn't cost much effort to defeat a slack Shanghai United team made up of four local football clubs 2-0 on Wednesday.

It was the curtain-raiser match of the 2005 Shanghai International Football Tournament at the Shanghai Stadium.

Second-half substitute Julio Cesar Baptista, who is pursued by English Premier League giants Arsenal, became the hero of the game with a deadlock breaker and a thunderbolt against the post.

After a dull first half with both teams making errors all the time, Baptista's appearance as a subsititute changed the situation. The Brazilian international dribbled past United goalkeeper Yu Weiliang in a one-to-one occasion before sending the ball into an open net comfortably.

Adriano Correia set up the second when he burst down to the area before providing an accurate left-foot cross finding an unmarked Kepa Bianco at the far post to head home without any difficulties.

Baptista nearly scored his second goal at the conclusion phrase of the game, but his powerful shot after a wonderful solo run was denied by the near post.

Sevilla will meet the winner of the next match between Spanish first division sides Real Zaragoza and Villarreal on July 30.
