Thousands of Chinese fans in the crowd of 24,223 in Beijing's Workers Stadium wore red Manchester United jerseys and the stands were hung with the banners of visiting fan clubs from Britain.

Scholes scored his first goal on a header in the 42nd minute and followed up in with a tap in at the 44th minute. South Korea's Park Ji-sung sank the third goal two minutes into the second half on a cross from midfielder Cristiano Ronaldo.

Manchester United, in the midst of an Asian tour, was playing without captain Roy Keane, an Irish international who remained behind in Britain with an injury.

Ronaldo, a Portuguese international, missed Manchester United's match in Hong Kong last Saturday because he stayed in Europe with his ill father. But he caught up with the team in Beijing and played the full second half.

"This game was far more competitive than in Hong Kong, and we are very satisfied," said Manchester United coach Sir Alex Ferguson. "Our players worked very hard and it will bring them to a good level of fitness very quickly."
