At least 10 people were killed and 25 injured when a bus skidded off the road in southwestern Nepal, police said.

The accident occurred Wednesday at Narpani village, some 425 kilometres (266 miles) southwest of Kathmandu, a police official said on Thursday.

"Of the 25 injured passengers, the condition of 10 is reported to be serious. They are undergoing treatment at a local hospital," the official said.

Ten other people were injured in a separate bus accident Wednesday in Tikauli forest near Bharatpur, 280 kilometres south of Kathmandu, police said.

The causes of the accidents have yet to be determined.
