MILAN, Italy: Parma's Italian international striker Alberto Gilardino's multi-million euro transfer to AC Milan from cash-strapped Serie A rivals Parma has been put on hold, the potential buying club's chief executive Adriano Galliani said on Tuesday.

On Saturday it had been reported that the two clubs had agreed on a transfer fee, believed to be close to 30 million euros, which was the sum wanted by Parma president Guido Angiolini. The player had been expected to sign his contract on Monday, pending a medical.

But Galliani said they had instead decided to postpone any decision till next Monday without specifying the reasons for the delay.

"We agreed with Parma to wait till Monday," he said.

"Then it will be a decisive yes or no. However I am optimistic enough it will go through."
