Brown | Diva Whitney Houston's "bad
boy" husband Bobby Brown is taking a
cue from singers including Ozzy Osbourne and Britney
Spears by taking to the airwaves with his own reality
television series.
"Being Bobby Brown," which premieres Thursday
on the US Bravo channel, follows the turbulent Brown, his superstar wife
and their extended family over the course of six months as they battle
their very public woes.
Brown was one of the hottest rhythm and blues in the late 1980s and
early '90s, but has become better known as the husband of the star of
"bodyguard" and for his frequent brushes with drugs and the law.
Bravo said the show would "demystify Brown's relationships"
with Houston, their 11-year-old daughter, Bobbi Kristina, his two children
from previous relationships and his brother Tommy, Bobby's personal
manager.
Brown married Six-time Grammy Award winning singer Houston, who
co-starred with Kevin Costner in 1992's blockbuster movie hit "Bodyguard,"
in 1992 but it is their exploits out of the recording studio that have captured
public attention in recent years.
While Houston, 41, has checked in and out of drug rehabilitation
clinics in recent years, Brown, 36, has checked in and out of court and
even jails after a string of heavily publicized arrests.
He was picked up in Atlanta for lewd conduct during a concert in 1993
and for brawling in 1995 and then for drunk driving in 1996 for alleged
battery against Houston in
late 2003 during a row.
In addition, he has had further appearances before judges for failing
to pay child support to a former lover and on marijuana charges.
"Maybe you don't recognize me because I'm not in an orange jump suit," Brown tells restaurant
diners in a scene for the eight-episode reality TV show.
Brown told the New York Times he wanted to make the warts and all show to show his fans
who he really is.
"I didn't want them to miss anything," he said. "I wanted them to get
the ups and downs and the good and bad because that's what made me," he
said, adding: "I'm not ashamed of any of it."
Brown's reality show follows in the footsteps of other celebrities ,
including Britney Spears and her new husband Kevin Federline, the
Osourne's, lead by patriarch Ozzy, the former Black Sabbath frontman, and
former Playboy model Anna Nicole Smith.
