Drug control situation grave: official (Xinhua) Updated: 2005-06-27 10:07 The drug control situation in
China remains quite severe due to the rapid increase of drug sources, multiway
of drug abuses and the integration trend of drugmaking, trafficking and abusing,
said a senior Chinese official Sunday.
Luo Gan, member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the
Communist Party of China Central Committee, made theremark when meeting with
members of a delegation which is expectedto travel the country spreading the
great stories of Wu Guanglin, a policeman who died in a battle against a major
armed drug trafficking gang on Aug. 30, 2004. Wu was posthumously awarded the
title of "Anti-Drug Hero".
"People from different walks of life, especially the policemen,should learn
from his spirits," said Luo.
He said painstaking efforts devoted by China's anti-drug forceshave
effectively helped curb drug abuse and reduced its harm to the minimum.
"They have contributed greatly to maintaining social stability and
safeguarding people's peaceful life," he said.
He also called on those working in China's political and law fronts to have a
strong belief in Communism, enforcing law for thepeople and faithfully perform
their sacred duties.
