Maradona confirms hiring of Basile as new coach of Boca Juniors

Former Argentine soccer star Diego Maradona said Saturday Alfio Basile "talked to Boca and all is ready" for his coaching the club.

Maradona said Basile will start with pre-season work June 30.

Basile, 62, will replace Jorge Benitez, who resiged after a scandalous elimination from Liberators Cup, by Mexico's Guadalajara Chivas in the quarterfinals.

The entry of Basile was imminent, but the remarks of the formercaptain of Argentina ratified the versions, although on Tuesday the Directive Commission of the club will make the definitive confirmation.

Basile coached Santa Fe Colon until December last year, and in Argentina he has also coached Racing Club, San Lorenzo, Velez Sarsfield, Chacarita Juniors, Rosario Central, Huracan, Instituto,Talleres and Cordoba Racing.

Abroad, he coached Atletico Madrid (Spain), Nacional (Uruguay) and America (Mexico).
