Real Madrid books two US matches
David Beckham, who captivated US football fans last month when England played two matches in America, will return again in July alongside his Real Madrid teammates. Real Madrid will play twice at Carson, California, against the Major League Soccer clubs who call the stadium home - July 16 against Chivas USA and either July 18 or 19 against the Los Angeles Galaxy. Beckham is likely to participate in the Los Angeles area to promote his new youth football academy in the area. He stopped in Los Angeles last month after England beat the US and Colombian teams on a brief US tour. "It is very important for Real Madrid to go to the United States," said Real Madrid vice president Emilio Butragueno. "We are convinced that this tour is going to be very successful and we are very excited." Real Madrid's lineup includes such stars as Beckham and Michael Owen from England, France's Zinedane Zidane plus Ronaldo, Luis Figo and Roberto Carlos. "We view this as a chance to take on one of the world's best and pit them against two of the region's best teams," MLS commissioner Don Garber said Thursday. Real Madrid becomes the third European power to book US matches in July. English Premier League champion Chelsea and Italian Serie A winner AC Milan will play each other and MLS clubs in matches in late July.
