Barcelona have struck an agreement with Seville striker Julio Baptista.

Sources close to the player have told AS that Baptista has agreed to join Barcelona at the end of next season when he qualifies for a Spanish passport.

The Brazil international has given Barca first option on his services, with a deal not locked in as the Spanish champs still fancy Arsenal star Thierry Henry. But in the event Arsenal continue to hold out for £50 million for the Frenchman, Barca will take Baptista as an alternative.

Powerhouse Baptista has a buyout clause of £24 million, but is now closer to quitting Seville following the exit of coach Joaquin Caparros last week.
