Int'l badminton tournament starts in Cuba

With the participation of 58 athletes from 14 nations, the 6th International Giraldilla Badminton Tournament starts Thursday with a competition program at Havana's Kid Chocolate Sports Complex.

Among the athletes who have confirmed their participation are English Toby Honey, the world's number 60; Welsh Martin Lewis (63)and Spanish Carlos Logo (118).

The timetable of the competition includes the Thursday and Friday heat, the semifinals on Saturday and the finals on Sunday 12.

This competition will give points in the singles, doubles and double-mixed categories, and the winners of each of these will receive 180 world-ranking points.

The first edition of the Giraldilla contest was in 1999 and since then it takes place each year at this capital.
