Abbas wants to appoint a deputy (Agencies) Updated: 2005-06-03 21:47
RAMALLAH, West Bank - Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas, following a heart
procedure earlier this week in Jordan, said Friday that he plans to appoint a
deputy after returning to the West Bank.
"This is something very
important. We consider it to be serious and in the near future it will be
offered to the legislature and the Palestinian cabinet to discuss it and they
will take the necessary decision," the 70-year-old leader said.
Information Minister Nabil Shaath said Abbas has been considering appointing
a deputy since his election in January and said Abbas is determined to win all
necessary approval.
Abbas underwent an angiogram in Jordan on Wednesday.
