Wade appeared to be injured with 5:08 left in the third quarter after taking a charge from Rasheed Wallace of the Detroit Pistons. He went into the locker room for an examination, and returned to the bench just before the start of the fourth quarter wearing a protective wrap around his midsection.

Wade was on the floor to open the fourth quarter, but motioned to the bench that he was in distress about two minutes into the period. He was replaced with 9:42 remaining in the game and the Heat leading 76-62. Wade returned to the locker room, grimacing and holding his side as he left the floor.

He entered Game 5 averaging 29.1 points in 12 playoff games. He had 15 points when he left in the fourth quarter.
