Brazilian football icon Pele said France's Zinedine Zidane was the best player of the last decade, after the screening of a new documentary in Cannes on his own legendary career.

"Zinedine Zidane is the best player of the past 10 years. Figo, Raul, Beckham, Ronaldo or Kaka are very good players, but Zidane has been the more consistent," the 64-year-old told reporters on Tuesday.

He added his compatriot Ronaldinho, who was instrumental in helping Barcelona clinch their 17th Spanish league title, was "the most brilliant player" of the moment.

Pele, who was born Edson Arantes do Nascimento and dominated international soccer for two decades, was on the French Riviera to present "Pele Forever", a Brazilian documentary on his life made by Anibal Massaini Neto and shown in the festival's open-air forum "Cinema on the Beach".
