President back home from Moscow ceremony
President Hu Jintao returned to Beijing yesterday morning after attending a Moscow ceremony marking the 60th anniversary of the victory of Russia's Great Patriotic War against Nazi Germany.
Hu also met with Russian war veterans, who helped China in fighting Japanese invaders in World War II, and their representatives, hours after his arrival in Moscow on Sunday. On the sidelines of the celebrations, Hu met with Russian President Vladimir Putin, President Roh Moo-hyun of the Republic of Korea, President Saparmurad Atayevich Niyazov of Turkmenistan, Romanian President Traian Bbasescu and French President Jacques Chirac. They conferred on enhancing bilateral relations and major international and regional issues of common interest and reached a lot of consensus. Hu appealed to the international community to keep a deep memory of history, treasure peace and open up a bright future of the world. He said China will insist on a peaceful development road and work together with people around the world to promote peace and development of humankind. Hu's Russia tour has strengthened Sino-Russian political mutual trust and deepened bilateral strategic co-operation partnership, sources from the Foreign Ministry said. The trip also highlighted China's proposition on joining hands with other countries of the world to safeguard peace and promote development and expanded China's international influence. Hu's trip helped promote bilateral relations between China and other countries and achieved the goal of "showing the peaceful image of China, seeking mutual benefits and win-win situation, deepening bilateral relations between China and other countries and promoting international co-operation", the sources said. |
