All China final in world women's singles
China's defending world champion Zhang Yining beat Lin Ling of Hong Kong in
the semi-final of the women's singles at the world table tennis championships on
Thursday, setting up an all-China final. She will play Guo Yan, also of China, who beat 16-year-old compatriot Guo
Yue. Guo Yan, ranked eighth in the world, won 10-12, 11-3, 11-6, 11-7, 11-9.
ADVERTISEMENT The final will take place later on Thursday. China won the women's singles at the Athens Olympics last year and are now guaranteed the gold medal in the world championships. China, the host nation, won its first gold medal of the tournament on Wednesday when mixed doubles pair Wang Liqin and Guo Yue beat compatriots Liu Guozheng and Bai Yang four sets to three. The men's doubles finals will be played on Thursday evening between China's Kong Linghui and Wang Hao and Germany's Timo Boll and Christian Seuss. The last German doubles pair to win the gold medal at the world championships
was in 1989 and the last time a European doubles pair won the gold was in 1991.
