Traffic accident kills 11 in SW China

A sleeper bus ran into a truck at 3: 52 a.m. on Monday in southwest China's Yunnan Province, killing 11 people and injuring 23 others.

Sources with the local government said the accident occurred in Chuxiong Yi Autonomous Prefecture of Yunnan, when the truck was running on the wrong side of the road and hit the bus head to head.

The sleeper bus, belonging to Dali Transport Group Co. Ltd. of Yunnan, was traveling from the provincial capital Kunming to the city of Dali when the accident happened.

The truck was from northwest China's Shaanxi Province.

An emergency command center was set up to handle the accident and rescuers were busy working at the scene, said the sources.

The exact cause of the accident was still under investigation, the sources added.
