Kim Clijsters' 17-match winning streak was ended by Russia's Svetlana Kuznetsova in the semi-finals of the WTA event in Warsaw on Saturday.

Clijsters, who had won consecutive tournaments at Indian Wells and Miami, lost 2-6 6-2 6-3.

After splitting the opening two sets, Clijsters had plenty of opportunities in the third, breaking for 2-1 and holding three points to lead 3-1.

Instead, the Belgian netted a backhand to allow the second-seeded Kuznetsova to level at 2-2, and she failed to win three game points in her next service game before a fierce backhand winner down the line gave Kuznetsova a 4-2 lead.

At the end of a match of high quality rallies and fierce hitting from both players, seventh seeded Clijsters fought off four match points before going down.

Kuznetsova will face Justine Henin-Hardenne or Ana Ivanovic, who are both unseeded, in the final.
