2005. [newsphoto] | Li Weiyi, spokesman of the
Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, or China's cabinet, said at a
regular press conference that currently the negotiation between the
mainland-based Association for Relations Across the Taiwan Straits (ARATS) and
the Straits Exchange Foundation (SEF), or the counterpart of ARATSin Taiwan,
failed to resume, because the Taiwan authorities did not acknowledge the
one-China principle and the "1992 Consensus".
Under such circumstances, the mainland is willing to negotiate and exchange
views on the "three direct links" as well as other issues concerned by the
people across the Straits, with any Taiwanese parties and organizations which
acknowledged the "1992 Consensus" and refused the position of "Taiwan
independence", Li said.
Li said the mainland also welcomed the visit by the person in charge of the
Democratic Progressive Party, as long as the party gave up the stand of "Taiwan
independence" position and stopped the "Taiwan independence" separation
activities.
