Anti-triad operation netted 91 persons (Xinhua) Updated: 2005-04-11 17:20 Hong Kong Police arrested a
total of 91 persons, comprising 47 men and 44 women, in a three-day anti-triad
operation concluded Saturday night.
The operation was mounted from April 7 to 9 with an aim to curb the sources
of income and activities of triad gangs in Tuen Mun and Yuen Long, according to
a government release.
Police officers from Crime Headquarters of New Territories North Region, Tuen
Mun and Yuen Long Districts, together with officers from the Customs and Excise
Department and Immigration Department, raided 76 black spots in the districts
where illegal activities such as sale of illicit oil, contraband cigarettes and
pirated optical discs took place.
During the three-day operation, police arrested 47 men and 44 women aged from
16 to 58 for conspiracy to trafficking in dangerous drugs, operating a gambling
establishment, illegal gambling, breach of conditions of stay, soliciting for
immoral purpose, criminal damage, assault and offenses under Dutiable
Commodities Ordinance and Copyright Ordinance.
A total of 7,000 liters of illicit oil, 14 900 numbers of obscene optical
discs and game discs, a small quantity of suspected dangerous drugs, some cash
and gambling chips were seized during the operation. The total value of the
seizures is estimated at about 425,000 HK dollars (54,487 US
dollars).
