Six killed, seven injured in Guizhou blast furnace accident (Xinhua) Updated: 2005-04-05 11:15 Six people were killed and
seven injured in an accident on Monday afternoon at a steel and iron company in
southwest China's Guizhou province, according to an official with the provincial
production safety supervision administration.
The official, slag fell onto workers during an overhaul of the No.2 blast
furnace at the Shuicheng Steel and Iron Corp. of Liupanshui at about 1:30,
killing six people, severely injuring three, slightly hurt four and left three
missing.
A company employee told Xinhua that the overhaul project, though undertaken
by the No.14 Metallurgical Construction Corp. of the China National Nonferrous
Metals Industry Corporation, was done by local peasant workers.
An emergency group, established by the No.14 Metallurgical Construction
Corp., is going on with the rescue work. Liupanshui officials are at the
accident scene, where rescue work continued Monday evening.
