Indian soldiers have shot dead two Islamic militants in Indian-administered Kashmir after they tried to storm into a fortified military camp with explosives strapped to their bodies, police said.

An Indian trooper also died when the militants fired at sentries while attacking the post of the Border Security Force near the northern Kashmiri town of Sopore, 55 kilometres (34 miles) from the Kashmiri summer capital Srinagar, a police spokesman said.

He said the two militants had explosives strapped to their bodies for an apparent suicide attack.
