Volleyball conference draws debate
The two-day national conference has drawn heated debate on the timetable of the new league season and an age limit.
One of the major focuses of the meeting is the timetable of the new national volleyball league season. The new season is scheduled to start in August and will last until next March, with an interval during the 10th National Games in October. However, the itinerary will cause some problems for national players who can't play for their local clubs while performing national duties. Another hot issue at the meeting is the age limit. The Chinese Volleyball Association, the country's governing body for the sport, is planning to set an age limit of 18, stipulating that all players taking part in the national league should reach the age of 18. At present, there is no restriction in this regard and the age of players range from 13 to 30. The move received strong opposition from short-handed teams and the compromise is to wait for another two years to implement the regulation.
