Schumacher looking forward to new Ferrari
World champion Michael Schumacher is relishing the new Ferrari's Formula One debut in Bahrain next week after his poor start to the season.
"It certainly won't be an easy race for us, but races are seldom easy. I'm looking forward to the challenge," Schumacher said in a statement on his website on Monday. Ferrari had planned to give the F2005 its debut in fifth race of the championship in Spain in May after starting with a modified version of the title-winning F2004 that won 15 out of 18 grands prix last year. The debut has been brought forward, however, to the third race in Bahrain after the German failed to finish in Australia and was seventh in Malaysia, leaving him with just two points, 14 behind Renault's Fernando Alonso. "The most important fact is that we are far enough along with the new car to be able to use it next weekend," Schumacher said. "Obviously I'm looking forward to the premiere and excited about it." Schumacher, who tested the new car last week, said he was confident that Ferrari could get back on top this season. "One of the things I've learned from the past is that every Formula One season has its different phases, and this season will be longer than every one before it," he said. "A lot is still going to happen. That things can change quickly as we're seeing right now -- and that with good work you can move up." He added: "We worked on our goals all week and were able to collect a lot of data. We've now got a good basis for analysis."
