design thought the two were highly similar in outlook and questioned the
necessity to adopt a duplicated design.
In response, an official with the city's planning bureau said they were aware
of the design's similarity to the Tokyo building, but the two were completely
different in construction and shape when examined carefully.
He also gave an assurance that all designs sent in were original work and
excluded the possibility of plagiary.
An architectural expert with the South China University of Science and
Technology confirmed the official's opinion.
Ye Ronggui, a doctorate tutor, said the Guangzhou design was a super
high-rise building of unique shape while the Tokyo building was less than 110m
high and of regular shape.
Each floor differed from another in the Guangzhou design while all the floors
were basically the same in the Tokyo building, he said.
The 450-meter design of the Guangzhou TV tower has been sent to the city's
CPC committee for final approval.
