Kaka seals Brazil win
A late goal from AC Milan's attacking midfielder Kaka gave world champions Brazil a 1-0 win over Peru in their South America zone World Cup qualifier.
The win puts Brazil second in the 10-team South American qualifying group with 23 points, two points behind leaders Argentina who came away with a 2-1 win from Bolivia on Saturday.
Brazil needed a win after falling 1-0 to Ecuador in Quito earlier in their campaign and being held to a goalless draw by Colombia.
The match at the Serra Dourada stadium however failed to live up to the expectations placed in Brazil's star-studded lineup of Ronaldo and Ronaldinho Gaucho, Robinho and Juninho Pernambucano.
But Kaka saved face when he slammed past Peru goalie Oscar Ibanez after 73 minutes to the delight of the 55,000 spectators, with Ronaldo missing a chance for a second in the dying minutes of the game.
The win eases the pressure on Brazil who travel to Montevideo on Wednesday to play Uruguay, who are fifth with 15 points after a 1-1 draw with Chile in Santiago on Saturday.
Peru, seventh in their qualifying group with 13 points, held Brazil to a 1-1 draw in their first qualifier last November in Lima.
The top four South American teams qualify for the 2006 World Cup finals with the fifth-placed team playing the Oceania winner for the final spot.
