China's parliament, the National People's Congress (NPC), will vote on a resolution to accept Jiang Zemin's request of resignation from the chairmanship of the State Central Military Commission Tuesday.

The presidium of the third session of the NPC adopted the resolution in a meeting Monday, and decided to put it on vote at aplenary meeting on Tuesday.

The presidium meeting also adopted a draft resolution on procedures of election and appointment of the current parliament session. The resolution will be submitted to Tuesday's plenary meeting for a vote.

Jiang Zemin, 78, requested to resign from his remaining post aschairman of the State Central Military Commission (CMC) in a letter read out Friday to a presidium meeting.

Jiang resigned from the chairmanship of the Central Military Commission of the Communist Party of China (CPC) in last September, and was succeeded by Hu Jintao.

The parliament session will elect a new chairman of the State Central Military Commission, according to an agenda adopted at a preparatory meeting of the session.

Hu Jintao, also general secretary of the CPC Central Committee, is expected to succeed Jiang as chairman of the State Central Military Commission.

Jiang became chairman of the CMC of the CPC in November 1989, and chairman of the State CMC in 1990.
