Li Na ousted in Qatar Open

China's top female tennis player Li Na, has been beaten by Patty Schnyder of Switzerland, in the first round of the Qatar Open.

The fifth-seeded Schnyder outlasted the single Chinese qualifier 7-5, 3-6, 7-5 on the hardcourts at Khalifa International Tennis Complex.

The Swiss star will meet promising Russian Maria Kirilenko in the second round, as Kirilenko defeated Czech and fellow qualifier Lucie Safarova 6-3, 6-1.

In other opening-round action, Aussie Nicole Pratt beat Tunisian wild card Selima Sfar 7-5, 6-2; Japanese Ai Sugiyama subdued Aussie lucky-loser Samantha Stosur 6-2, 6-3; Slovakian Daniela Hantuchova overcame Bulgarian Magdalena Maleeva 4-6, 6-4, 6-3; Spaniard Conchita Martinez came back to beat Italian qualifier Roberta Vinci 5-7, 6-0, 6-2; and Argentine Gisela Dulko outlasted Spaniard Anabel Medina Garrigues 6-1, 1-6, 6-4 to set-up a second-round bout with Russian sensation Maria Sharapova.

This week's top-four seeds -- former world No. 1 Amelie Mauresmo of France, the Wimbledon champion Sharapova, French Open holder Anastasia Myskina of Russia and big-serving Aussie Alicia Molik -- will all take to the courts for second-round matches today.

The top-seeded Mauresmo is fresh off her title in Antwerp, while the third-seeded Myskina is the reigning Doha champion, having beaten Svetlana Kuznetsova in last year's all-Russian finale.
