Taiwan investment on rise in Chongqing

Taiwanese investors have pumped US$1. 17 billion into 748 ventures in Chongqing Municipality, the biggest industrial center in west China.

The Taiwanese investment is primarily in real estate, pharmaceutical and chemical industries, electronics and machinery building, food and general merchandise and automobile and motorcycle parts, according to the Municipal Office of Taiwan Affairs.

Cooperation between Taiwan and Chongqing, the largest city on the upper reaches of the Yangtze River, in economics, culture, science and technology has been growing steadily, the office said.

More than 70 delegations from Chongqing and Taiwan, about 500 people in total, exchanged visits last year. Taiwanese investors started up 31 businesses here during the year, with the inflow of Taiwan investment amounting to US$10.49 million.

Trade between Taiwan and Chongqing rose to US$96.25 million last year, the office said.
