Five people were confirmed dead and 11 others injured after a road accident Sunday morning at a village in Huludao City, northeast China's Liaoning Province, local police told Xinhua Monday.

On Sunday morning, a three-wheel farm vehicle, carrying a group of country women in Lianshan District of Huludao to buy special goods for the coming Chinese Lunar New Year which falls on Wednesday, collided into a village house due to machine failure, and then ran into a ditch nearby.

Five people were killed on the spot, with 11 others injured. All of the injured have been hospitalized in the city, and two of them remained in danger, the police said.

The driver, surnamed Tian, has been detained by the police.

In some remote rural areas, three-wheel farm vehicles are often seen carrying passengers, which is a traffic rule violation.

Local traffic police warned that rural people should not take such vehicles to risk their lives just for saving money.
