Citizens' life expectancy reaches 79.87 years

The average life expectancy of Beijing residents reached 79.87 years in 2004, compared with 79.62 years in 2003, according to the information center of the municipal center for disease control.

Men's average life expectancy is 78.24 years and the women's is 81.51 years, said Xie Xueqin, director of the center, Thursday.

Last year, the mortality of infants was 5.61 per thousand, while the delivery death rate stood at 15.19 per 100,000, compared with 5.89 and 15.6 per 100,000, respectively, in 2003.

Beijing residents enjoy the second longest life expectancy in China, following Shanghai.
