Porn art playing cards cause a stir (China Daily) Updated: 2005-02-01 17:11
Pharmacies in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, are giving out playing cards with
erotic pictures and captions on the back to customers who buy sex products,
reports Today's Morning Post.
The
sex-revealing play cards are given out to customers buying sex
products in Hangzhou, capital city of South China's Zhejiang Province.
[sohu] | But there is nothing pornographic
about the gift cards. Each picture is of a sculpture, painting or jade ware
bearing ancient erotica.
The pictures featured on the cards are from works in the collection of
Professor Ma Xiaonian, based in Beijing.
Ma's field of medical expertise is sexual matters. He said sex remains
something of a taboo topic in China and the playing cards were intended as a way
of promoting a healthy attitude towards sexual matters. He has spent 11 years
collecting the various pieces.
But critics argue it could lead to inappropriate behaviour if the playing
cards fell into the hands of the young.
