Sun Jihai eyes new Man City contract
Manchester City's Chinese defender Sun Jihai says he is recovering from long-term injury and hoping for a new contract when his current deal expires at the end of the season. Sun needed surgery after damaging knee ligaments in City's 1-0 home win over Chelsea last October and will not be able to resume training until the close season. But he told City's website on Thursday: "Now I am starting to feel much better and more mobile and ready to step up the work I am doing with the physios. "Depending on how the injury heals, I will work as much as I need to over the close season but hopefully I will make quick progress and be kicking a ball before then. "The doctors checked the knee this week and were very pleased with how things are progressing." The 27-year-old has also been buoyed by comments from manager Kevin Keegan, who said he would be talking to Sun's agent next week about a possible two or three-year deal. The final decision, though, will be down to the City board and will depend on Sun's fitness. "I am very happy that the gaffer has confidence in me to start talking about a new contract, I would love to carry on playing for City," said Sun, who joined in 2002 from Chinese club Dalian after a previous spell at Crystal Palace.
