[Xinhua] | | Zhang Tong,
the lucky boy's father who works for Air China, signed an advertising contract
January 19 with the "Jie Zhimeng" tissue company, making his 13-day-old son
China's youngest image representative for a product.
The baby has been flooded with offers of advertising deals from companies
making virtually everything, from diapers to infant formula. After very careful
consideration, the family chose to sign this tissue-advertising contract.
"It's lucky to be the nation's 1.3 billionth citizen," said Zhang Tong, the
father, "but too many commercial activities will do no good to the boy's healthy
growth."
Zhang Yichi was designated as China's 1.3-billionth citizen right after birth
on January 6, 2005 and grabbed the frontpage headlines of nearly all national
newspapers.
There are also voices doubting the credibility of the 1.3-billionth citizen,
saying that there surely were many babies born the same moment as the officially
recognized boy, while maybe without a residence registration.
