Harbin to host the 2009 Winter Universiade
George E. Killian, president of the International University Sports Federation (FISU), announced in Innsbruck, Austria on Monday that the northeastern Chinese city of Harbin won the right to host the Winter Universiade in 2009.
Killian especially praised Harbin and Belgrade for their outstanding venues, their excellent general infrastructure and the enthusiasm of the public. The decision was made by the 23 members of the Executive Committee of FISU in a secret vote. Killian added that he very much hopes that the others who were not picked will not be demoralized and encouraged them to try again in 2007. "Nobody is a loser, we'd love to see you back in 2007," said Killian.
