Han Guirong, wife of Wang Huaizhong, former vice-governor of east China's Anhui Province who was executed for corruption, has been sentenced to 10 years in jail for her involvement in Wang's case.

The verdict was pronounced on Thursday by the People's Court of Anqing city. The court also ruled that Han's 100,000 yuan (12,000 US dollars) of personal property should be confiscated and all herillegal earnings retrieved.

Han, 56, was arrested in October 2002 on charges of taking bribes. In May 2004, the Anhui Provincial Procuratorate designatedAnqing City Procuratorate to lodge public prosecution against her.

Investigations show that Han took advantage of Wang's position to accept bribes worth 1.2 million yuan (145,000 US dollars) with Wang and could not account for the 4.8 million yuan (580,000 US dollars) of property they possessed.

After Wang's case was unveiled in 2002, Han several times transferred and hid properties worth 5.09 million yuan (602,000 USdollars), said the local Procuratorate.

Before her arrest, Han was an official in the local financial department. She married Wang in October 1969.

Wang was executed in February 2004 for taking bribes valued at 5.17 million yuan (623,000 US dollars) from 1994 to 2001 and possessing 4.8 million yuan that he could not justify.
