Ferrari motor racing team director Jean Todt acknowledged that he was engaged to Hong Kong movie star Michelle Yeoh at a recent news conference.

"I proposed to her and we are now engaged," said 58-year-old Frenchman Jean Todt.

He said that they had spent many happy days together and did not rule out the possibility of marriage.

Michelle Yeoh is a 42-year-old actress born in Malaysia who later moved to Hong Kong. She became famous as a spy in the 1997 James Bond movie Tomorrow Never Dies.

Yeoh had brought Todt back home to meet her parents in Malaysia during the Christmas season.

Todt and Yeoh met in June at a promotional event organized by Ferrari in Shanghai, and the couple has been sighted together since then at F1 races in France and the United Kingdom.

She was caught dating Ferrari CEO Jean Todt by German paper Bild. A German sports channel photographed Yeoh sitting next to Todt, the CEO and also the chief of the Ferrari racing team. He is also the boss of seven-time F1 champion Michael Schumacher.

Yeoh said she was very happy with their relationship. Strangely, Yeoh said she hadn’t heard anything about her engagement: "How did that come out? I didn't know about it," she said.

Asked about a beautiful blue diamond ring that she was wearing, she said it was not an engagement ring but just a present from Todt. She said she would announce her marriage if there were any detailed plans.

The pair was introduced by Yeoh's former beau of four years, Hong Kong movie producer Thomas Chung. "Michelle is a very smart woman, I wish her happiness both in her life and career," said Chung.
