Former Argentine soccer star Diego Maradona, who retired in 1998, will become a character in mobile-phone video games.

Three companies that have image rights of Maradona signed with US mobile phone firm Digital Orchid a contract to use the figure of the former the Argentine national team captain.

In the video game, Maradona challenges the user to take the ball away from him, local daily Infobae reported on Monday

The companies are Diegui, Maradona International Calling Card and Black & Gold.

The mobile phone with the mentioned video game will be commercialized in February worldwide, including China and Japan.

Maradona, 44, arrived in mid-December in Argentina from Cuba to celebrate the season's celebrations with his family. Maradona is still undergoing a drug-addiction treatment in Cuba.
